Enable Mod Deflate / Gzip

Our cPanel hosting accounts include the option to enable/disable something called mod_deflate on your website. This is a feature of your account that can be enabled via the 'Optimise Website' section of your control panel.

When someone visits your website, their browser will inform the server if it supports gzip compression. If so, with this feature enabled the server will then compress your website content in real-time before sending it to the browser that is visiting your site. This has 2 advantages in that it will not only mean that less data is transferred from your website as it has been compressed, but also as it is a smaller amount of data being sent then your website should also load more quickly and therefore provide your visitors with a better experience.

This feature is not enabled as standard as it can interfere with certain scripts on websites, therefore if you enable this we would recommend a quick check of your website to ensure that all pages load correctly.
